Ceretto's Outstanding "Bricco Rocche" Barolos
The name Ceretto is one of the most respected in Italy's
Piedmont region. Three generations have been producing
Barolos and Barbarescos for more than seventy years. They
use a combination of traditional and modern winemaking
techniques with the noble Nebbiolo grape. This results in
big and robust wines that are accessible to drinking in a
matter of years rather than decades. Ceretto's Barolos are
bottled under the Bricco Rocche label. Bricco Rocche is also
the name of their top vineyard. Thus their flagship wine is
Bricco Rocche "Bricco Rocche." Capisce?
The
Wine Spectator (10/15/05) wrote of the Bricco
Rocche "Bricco Rocche" Barolo 2001
(estate bottled): "Extremely floral and pretty, with roses,
light plums and light, fresh herb character. Full-bodied,
with well-integrated tannins and a long, light spice and
vanilla aftertaste. Lots of new wood. Best after 2008." They
scored it an outstanding 93 points. Robert Parker (10/06)
scored the wine an outstanding 90 points and described it
as: "The 100% new-oak aged 2001 was made from old vines
yielding just 40 hectoliters per hectare. The nose is
redolent of spices and menthol with notes of minerals and
anise. On the palate it is very dense and long, although the
wine remains dominated by the new oak and is tough to fully
evaluate today."
Bricco
Rocche "Brunate" Barolo 2003 (estate bottled) was
rated an outstanding 92 points by Robert Parker (10/07) who
wrote: "The 2003 Barolo Brunate is sweet, pure and beautiful
in its expression of dark fruit, tobacco, menthol and
toasted oak. This poised, nuanced Barolo reveals outstanding
length, well-integrated tannins and a judicious use of
French oak, with a long, lingering finish. Anticipated
maturity: 2009-2019." Wine Spectator also gaves
this wine 92 points and said: "Shows plenty of white truffle
and blackberry, with coffee bean undertones. Full-bodied,
firm and silky, with a long finish. Very pretty and fresh.
Best after 2011." It doesn't take a rocket scientist to
conclude that based on the above reviews and the relative
prices it would appear that the Brunate is a bargain, Do NOT
let this one get away!

Southern Hemisphere's Best Cabernet At Bargain Price!
 This
2006 is the latest edition of Casa Lapostolle "Cuvée
Alexandre" Cabernet Sauvignon -- widely
acknowledged to be the finest Cabernet produced in Chile if
not the entire southern hemisphere. When the pundits get
around to reviewing this vintage it will no doubt draw raves
as have its predecessors. Deep ruby color with purple hints.
Intense black fruit aromas. Soft tannins with a firm body.
Well balanced structure, good acidity and long finish. Ready
to drink now or hold for several years. Ideal companion for
meats and elaborate dishes. At this price you really should
buy a case or two or..

Just in time for New Year's Eve, we have made a great buy on
a limited number of cases on a highly acclaimed (but little
known) French Champagne. Henri Abelé Brut Champagne
NV was rated an outstanding 90-points
by the Wine Spectator (11/30/06) which described it
as: "Toasty and rich, with a firm structure. Peach, marzipan
and spice notes are warm and inviting. Balanced, picking up
mineral notes and a crisp dryness on the finish. Drink now."
