Join us this Saturday as we turn over our tasting room to our friends from Raymond Vineyards, one of Napa's stalwarts. We'll sample a full range of their wines, all for free, from 11 to 5.

Most of us don't like cold coffee and nobody likes hot beer, especially during the summer. So then, why do so many people try to enjoy red wine served at 80 or 90 degrees? If only the English would have said "cellar" temperature and not "room" temperature, we'd all be on the right page to serve our red wines at 55 degrees. When it's hot I like to barbecue. I put some red wines in the refrigerator over night. Sure they're too cold at first, but after I open a bottle and take a glass outside and start the coals, in minutes the wine is almost the perfect temperature.

Formerly called "Vuiplasie", meaning dirty little farm, Mulderbosch is now widely accepted as one of the best white wine producers in the South Africa, maybe in the Southern Hemisphere. The winery is situated in the Koelenhof area of Stellenbosch. This is the best wine producing district in South Africa. Pale straw with a lively green color. A tropical fruit punch nose, packed with flavor and great acidity. This wine has a complex character of grassiness, slightly herbaceous with a long clean aftertaste. Normally priced at $24.95 it's on sale for $18.97.

G'Vine is a premium French gin combining the pure grape neutral spirit of the Ugni Blanc grape grown in Cognac and whole fruit botanicals with an infusion of vine flowers. The rare green grape flowers last only two weeks after blossoming in June. These are then handpicked and macerated in the Ugni Blanc grape spirit. Distilled in small batches, G'Vine combines nine botanicals: ginger root, licorice, green cardamom, cassia bark, coriander, juniper berries, cubeb berries, nutmeg and lime. The infusion is then blended and distilled in copper pots. This gin has floral aromas with a spicy warmth and a long, delicate finish that leaves the mouth clean and fresh. There is just a hint of the juniper flavor that dominates traditional English gins. It is truly amazing what a little grape can do. It makes a wonderful martini or other cocktail, but I liked it best on the rocks with a slice of lime. For serving ideas please see Mui at Schaefer's for a recipe sheet.
